Make New Zealand Healthy – Health Champions

David Nyika

2021 Olympic Bronze medalist, David Nyika is a New Zealand professional boxer. As an amateur, he won a gold medal at both the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as competing at the 2017 and 2019 World Boxing Championships.

“Health and medicine has been a huge part of my life and upbringing. My mother (physiotherapist) and father (pharmacist) share a combined 60+ years of experience in the industry.

Through my sport I have been fortunate to learn and work with some of the world’s best medical professionals (HPSNZ).

My fiancé (25) was recently treated for a stage 3 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. This has sparked an intense feeling of responsibility to help make New Zealand Healthy.

I am grateful and excited to be amongst the team that will make a difference.”

Simon Gault

Simon Gault is a New Zealand chef, restaurateur, author and television presenter, best known for his five seasons as a MasterChef New Zealand judge. His mission is simple: to get Kiwis cooking again.

His own experience with type 2 diabetes sparked a deeper interest in the relationship between food, lifestyle and health. Through the documentaries Why Are We Fat? and How We Eat, Simon explored how we eat and the impact on our health. He also developed Four Wheels of Health and now continues his work in health education through the Simon Gault Health platform.

Simon brings a chef’s practical perspective, helping people build the skills and confidence to cook from scratch, use whole foods and make healthier choices that fit everyday life. He believes getting more New Zealanders back into the kitchen starts with showing them that cooking can be simple, affordable and full of flavour. Eating well should never mean giving up the pleasure of good food.
